Iain MacArthur
MacArthur is a really prolific english illustrator.. i really identify with his work because it is illustrative and very detailed, but there is artistic depth to everything.. using mostly pencil, watercolour and ink pens he embellishes his subjects with patterns and shapes.. really interesting work. http://iainmacarthur.carbonmade.com/

hahaha.. reminds me of a super smacked out spongebob squarepants
Peter Garfield
this is from a photographic series by Garfield called 'Mobile Homes'.. at first glance they appear to be real houses being thrown from the skies but they're actually very detailed scaled replica models hung in the air with invisible wire by helicopters..
there's more info about it here.. http://vcuseniorportfolio.blogspot.com/2009/02/monday-entry-peter-garfield.html
and garfield's site is at http://www.petergarfield.net/index.shtml

Dare
This is Dare. Are you? from thisisdare on Vimeo.
i came across this promotional video for grad applications for the british marketing agency Dare. i think it's a really funny and self-reflective but modern piece... it talks about infographics... using infographics!
also it's very relevant to our projects using after effects.
Martin de Thurrah
EXPO bicycle city from martin de thurah on Vimeo.
when i visited the Shanghai World Expo this july one of the pavilions i most enjoyed was the danish one.. the best thing about the expo is that it aims to educate and increase understanding about the unique culture that each country possesses.. each pavilion packs in what they feel best represents them under one roof, either socially, artistically, historically, or technologically... the danish pavilion was great because it encapsulated the everyday-ness of the danish way of life.
part of the pavilion included a video wall that showed short films shot by danish director Martin de Thurrah, representing parts of danish life that were very prevalent and probably understated in everyday life, like water, and in this video, bicycles. really filmic and softly spoken but seems to tell so much about how important bikes are to danish culture.

just a slice of the amazing work from brit illustrator Jonny Wan... he incorporates type, or type-like structure and hierarchy in his works... they end up looking like awesome illustrated monoliths of colour and pattern.. cool stuff.. http://www.jonnywan.com/
stationary for the sick-minded
the german design agency Jung von Matt created a stationary set and identity design for a crime and horror tv channel... it incorporates gore and humour, strategically placing zombie heads on an envelope or letter head. really cool! http://www.behance.net/gallery/13th-Street-Stationery-of-Horror-%28Design%29/440850
